Leadership and Community Involvement
ASCIS aims to create a campus culture in which students are intrinsically motivated to effect positive change outside of school. Over recent years, ASCIS elementary students have put together handmade Christmas shoe boxes for disadvantaged children in developing nations, delivered an entire school bus full of food donations to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, raised enough money to buy a goat for a family in a developing country, transformed scores of recycled milk bags into pillows and sleeping mats for Haitian orphans and donated dozens of sleeping bags, boots and socks to Street Help Unit 7.
Under the leadership of a very active Student Council, the elementary students at ASCIS enjoy a variety of team-building activities and events. Monthly assemblies to recognize individual and team accomplishments are organized and presented by the Student Council Prime Minister and other Executive members. Special events like CANSTRUCTION (an annual can drive), Canada Games Day, Diversity Day and Spirit Week are also Student Council responsibilities. Throughout the year, Student Council members also plan and carry out fundraising activities that support charitable donations or the school student body.
